One Big Rock

I would want an engagement  ring with a big rock, but I don't really need one so in all honesty it doesn't really matter if I get one from the boyfriend or not.  It's a want, not a need.  But if I do get one, I hope it's one unique ring.

Imagine my delight when I came across this ring, made by Macha Jewellery:

That's a large  rock, alright!

The "stone" is literally a rock carved from silver or gold plated alloy, set on sterling silver.  I think it's brilliant.  It looks like a rough diamond. I love that it's so irreverent.  I even love the box it comes with, so classy:

Obviously, I'm nuts about Etsy. :-)

I Love Headpieces

And I love DIY headpieces best.  Here's a really creative one from Heart of Light.

Pretty!
Full tutorial HERE.

** What do you know, Heart of Light also has an Etsy store!  Etsy scores again!  Go check out her wares.  She's awesome.

The Glamelia

Is an awesome bridal bouquet.  It looks like a giant rose (or a giant camellia) and is made from plucking petals from several roses and gluing them to a base.  I have an issue of the InStyle Weddings Winter 2008 issue and that's where I first saw it.  Someone actually scanned that exact same issue with the glamelia and here it is, take a look:

It was done by Mark Held of Mark's Garden, the famed Los Angeles flower source.

I learned that it was actually a huge thing to do during the 40s and 50s, so picking a glamelia bouquet today would be considered quite old-school and vintage.  Awesome.

I chanced upon this post last year from Brenda of Kuga Designs.  She did a red one and she chronicled how she did it.  It's a lot of work and she says it took forever (give or take 2.5 hours, let's say), but the end result was really beautiful.  Such a beautiful deep red flower.  A beautiful GIANT deep red flower.

Reading her account and seeing that this is her first try, I say that she did a great job.  However, it did seem to involve backbreaking plucking, selecting (for right size, shape, and color), wiring, and gluing to come up with this creation so just a bit of heads up to brides-to-be out there -- you may pay a premium for labor.  But if this is really what you want, by all means go for it!  They can even serve as centerpieces, but I kinda advice against that unless your florist has an army of workers to do these.

Now, I wonder if the wonderful florists at Dangwa have done something like this. Hmm...

Love Photography: Rock Paper Scissors

Love Photography is a segment here on Bride Station that will feature a favorite photo (be it engagement photos, wedding photos, or day-after photos) from various photographers around the world.

Roel + Ven Prenup
by Rock Paper Scissors

A lot of the prenup/engagement photo shoots I've seen here in the Philippines involve the couple strolling and acting all saccharine and smiley either on a beach or somewhere in Tagaytay. Again, if that's your thing then keep doing what you're doing.

But it ain't my thing. I really do want something different. I want something more gritty, more urban, or at least something so creative and funny.

This photo of Roel and Ven taken by the Rock Paper Scissors team gives me joy. It's like everything I ever wanted. The entire set is awesome. Rock Paper Scissors is awesome sauce.

I'm suddenly so proud that my country produces a ton of people who are creative and have great ideas. :)

Shoes to Get Married In

I love shoes. Well, I love looking at them -- different heights, colors, price points -- because I don't really have a budget to get all the shoes I want. It doesn't help that I always look at designer shoes, with Net-A-Porter being my favorite because it's just so easy to look at all the selections, narrow them down to only the features you want to see. It's also great that they have new selections every week. I must admit it's very therapeutic.

I would like to share with you several of my favorite shoes on Net-A-Porter. A lot of them won't be the typical wedding shoe, but I think it'll be lovely to have some hint of the unexpected in your outfit, kinda like a lovely surprise.

Christian Louboutin Lady Claude 120 pumps
What a fun shoe, I must say! It's like a disco ball on your feet. Don't mind the price since we're all just cyber window-shopping anyway but if you can afford to get this Swarovski-crystal encrusted shoe then why the hell not? Or make this your inspiration shoe and try to look for less expensive look-alikes.

Stella McCartney cage-effect satin sandals
I love this mustard-yellow shoe because, well, it's yellow! I have a thing for yellow shoes since it's kinda what I had in mind if and when I get married. It's made from cork, so it's lightweight, and the straps give ample support. It looks sturdy, not dainty.

Converse paint-splatter hi-top sneakers And why not? Who says you need to wear heels to your wedding? Perhaps you could change to these more comfortable sneaks for the reception, that way you can dance and mingle to your heart's content without feeling like your feet are killing you.

Valentino couture patent leather pumps
I just find everything about this shoe so beautiful. That perfect shade of red. That fun bow. That beautiful conical heel. It's just so fun and perfect.

Camilla Skovgaard collar leather and suede sandals
Badass shoes for the badass bride. These shoes are classic in color. It is a stiletto, but it's not quite the classic dainty shoe one might expect. It is both rugged and dainty. The shoe looks like you can wear it when climbing mountains.

Maison Martin Margiela two-tone leather sandals
Probably the most classic- and traditional-looking shoe you'll ever see me post here. I'm not one for classic and traditional but I could make an exception for these. They are so elegant-looking that I feel I might be transformed once I put these on. The colors are beautiful.

Different shoes for different folks. But if you ask me, you can wear whatever you want. It's your wedding day. Your day. Your happiness comes first, even if it means wearing an unusual or atypical shoe.

Fabulous Flower Girl Frocks

Etsy strikes again.

Thanks to Off White Wedding, I got to know about this Etsy store called Sweet Plume that makes these really cute flower girl dresses that are far from ordinary. I love that these are dresses for girls and that they make girls look like girls (and not little versions of adult styles). They're fun, colorful, and did I mention cute? Have a look at some of Sweet Plume's creations:

This dress goes really well with the wedding dress I posted earlier.

Seriously, I want an adult version of this made! Feathers! :)

OMG the details on this!

How cute are these two?! And yes, adult version of that dress ASAP! Gimme the headpiece too!

She ships only to the US and Canada, but here's to hoping she'll open up orders for other countries as well. Or you could use Johnny Air or even better, have the dresses shipped to a relative in the US or Canada and then they can bring them home to you. Am I right or am I right?

Visit Sweet Plume at the following links (she gives discounts and sweet deals if you do!):

Look What I Found on Etsy!

I love Etsy, that place where ultra-creative people sell their handmade wares. I'm a fan of handmade stuff, particularly ones that really showcase that person's creativity.

I was amusing/distracting myself earlier by browsing wedding dresses at Etsy when I chanced upon this lovely thing. Behold, the Emily dress from Etsy user threadhead:

Says the description on the page:
Emily features a natural waist and sweetheart neckline. The waist is accented with a handmade chiffon flower and ribbon sash, shown here in black. The sheer silk chiffon overlay is gathered onto the fitted organic cotton underlayer of the bodice. The skirt is hemmed for a soft bubble hem effect. Emily is pictured in organic cotton with an unbleached silk chiffon overlay. Fully lined in organic cotton.

Such a beautiful dress. I love the black ribbon. What got to me was how simple it is, the clean lines, the obvious lack of ostentatious beading. You see, I'm not really fan of blingy wedding dresses. Good for you if you like them, but it's just not for me. I also love how the dress looks so soft and comfortable, how I could easily imagine the bride moving about and dancing -- which I think should be one of the top considerations for a wedding dress.

I actually imagine this to be a bridesmaid dress if I were to use it for my own wedding (whenever that may be, but don't hold your breath), but I may have to cut it shorter for that purpose.

At US$800 plus shipping (US$25 if you live in the United States, $40 elsewhere) this is more than my imaginary wedding budget could afford. I know some of you would take this picture and show it to your seamstresses, am I right? It's a great dress template of sorts because there's not a lot of embellishments so if you really like this dress' shape and form then by all means put all the beads and crystals you want if you want to.

Eco-friendly and quite customizable, the Emily dress may be the one for you.

Inaugural Post

Let me just introduce myself before we get down to business:

My name is Liee ("Lee" or "Li") and I've been blogging for quite a few years now, mostly personal stuff though. I've had a couple of public blogs but they end up getting abandoned because of my busy work schedule, but I'm hoping I'll be able to sustain this one.

Weddings. Yes.

DISCLAIMER: I am not married. I am not engaged. I don't know why I'm doing this; I may simply like the planning and organization of important events such as weddings. Perhaps this may serve as a wedding reference of source should I get married one day.

To tell you honestly, I wasn't the kid who daydreamed about her wedding day. I actually find it strange that for the past couple of years I've been distracting and amusing myself by frequenting wedding blogs and other wedding-related sites. I have opinions on everything that may or may not be to everyone's liking. My tastes will become more obvious as I put up more posts.

Anyway, I just wanted a place to share all these wedding related stuff. I may just simply want to be organized. :)
